Incredible India

In 2009 to 2010 I was luck enough to work in India, living in a serviced apartment in the Diamond District in Bangalore
This page is intended to be a dumping ground for some of the stories I have from those times.

An Early Breakfast

I was woken by the sound of my off key “musical” doorbell, and, most definitely feeling the effects of the night before, staggered to my  front door.
“Morning Sir! Breakfast Sir”, beamed Amit.
“Good morning Amit, we said late breakfast today didn’t we?”
“Yes Sir!”
“But it’s 5:30 in the morning Amit?”
“Yes Sir!”
“Which is quite early isn’t it?”
“Yes Sir! Breakfast Sir!”

India often puzzled me.

A Royal Meeting

During a tour of the City Palace in Jaipur, our guide suddenly interrupted himself:
“There’s the King!” he shouted.  Then, for some reason spoke to me.  “Stand next to the King.  I will take your photo.”

I stood at what I thought was a respectful distance from the elderly Maharaja Bhawani.
The guide waved his hands saying “Closer, get closer,” and – embarrassed – I edged towards him.  But the guide’s hands wouldn’t stop.
“Closer, get closer,” he repeated again and again.  Eventually I was standing right next to the Maharaja and found myself having to apologise.
We had a short conversation about Bangalore.  He looked bemused.

I am glad India is puzzling to Indian’s from time to time also.
